WILD KNITTING

I needed 160g Noro sock yarn to knit this shawl using short rows, garter stitch and lace patterns randomly. This "wild" knitting is very liberating and absolutely addictive.
The shawl drapes nicely and the long colour repeats of the Noro yarn are wonderful for this way of knitting.

Gilet and Scarf

simple tabby woven on 4 shafts . Marina gave me the pattern for the gilet.

The scarf was knit with the silk/alpaca yarn that was mentioned in an older post.

Food Colours

Experimenting with food colours again. The multicoloured tops show quite strong colours - just what I wanted.
I'll try to keep the colour sequence and not mix the colours during spinning.

KEEPING WARM

Knitted with a hand-spun silk/merino mix this shawl is very soft to the touch.

Patchwork Knitting

This waistcoat was started with crochet granny squares. After I had made enough to assemble the back I thought this was just too old fashioned and despite the many colours quite boring.

Therefore I changed the crochet hook for my favourite circular knitting needles and started knitting in different directions until the right front was completed. When I found a left over granny square I used it as a centre of a knitted log cabin block which was then finished into the left front. A border knitted with short rows and a kimono collar finished the piece. Lots of colours, a bit crazy perhaps but with jeans and a white top underneath it should be ok.

knitting in the round again

also knitted in the round but with single thread of sock yarn and 4mm needles this waist coat is much lighter and softer than the cardigan.
it looks a bit like a spider web.

TAPOCHKI

these beautiful felted and embroidered slippers came to us as a christmas present from Kazakstan. the russian word for slippers is "tapochki". don't they just make you think of "Aladin" or "Little Muck", flying carpets and magic lamps?

they are obviously made entirely by hand. several layers of different colours of felt are sewn together and embroidered. the soles are leather.

perhaps this inspires the felters among us to try a similar design.

i hope you are all having a wonderful Christmas holiday.

Brag

admittedly, i am not too fond about the expression 'brag' but that is the word the guild members use when members show their latest projects.
During the Fibre Break Away in September we also had one "brag"evening (instead of the originally planned fashion show). This is what i had to show:

The gilet is constructed from several squares woven on the diagonal frame with merino that i had dyed and spun before. the edges are knitted. It was a bit of a gamble as i didn't have a lot of this particular yarn - i have about 10 cm left over from the multicoloured yarn and a little bit more of the blue. Phew - just made it :-)
