LARGE BANDANA LOOP

I knitted the wrap/loop/cowl with  100% bourette silk hand-painted by BC Garn, 350m/100g purchased in Groningen/Netherlands.

I used 200g and 3.5 mm circular needle.

See the free pattern in the previous post.

I would appreciate a comment if you copy and paste the pattern - it would be lovely to see who is interested. And perhaps you would even like to add a photo of your cowl to a future comment.

Bandana Loop

     LOOP BANDANA

70 - 100g of sock weight or fingering yarn 400m/100g, Circular needle 3.5mm, 60 cm long
One solid colour, variegated, self-striping, mini skeins or scraps in stripes, anything goes. And any yarn can be used, but amount of yarn will be different if using a different weight yarn

Start with a garter tab as follows:

1. CO4sts

2. Knit 6R garterst(always slip last st wyif)=3ribs

3. PU and k3sts along side of tab and the 4CO sts=11sts

4. WS: k10sts,(remember to slip last st wyif)

5. RS: K3, yo, k1, yo,  pm,K3(=center sts), yo, K1, yo,  K2,sl laststwyif

6. WS: k all to last  st,slwyif

7. RS: k3, yo, k3, yo, slm, K3(center sts), yo, k3, yo, k2, sl last st wyif

8. Repeat 6 and 7.

NOTE: the number of stitches between 1st and and 2nd and between 3rd and 4th yo increases by 2 each RS row!

9. Work any stitch pattern you like or continue in garterst until you have enough sts on your 60 cm circular needle to comfortably close in the round knitting the last and first sts together.

10.In the next round again knit together the last and first stitches; you now have again 3 garter sts between the 2 yos at the beginning/ending of the round and in the middle which is the tip of the triangle.

11.Continue in your chosen pattern or change patterns but continue to knit garter between the 2 yos at the end/beginning and in the middle of the round which means you have to purl these stitches every other round. Remember to do the yos only every other round!

12.You can continue until you have just enough yarn left to Bind off, or work a few rows of rib – k1, p1 before you bind off.

Larger Version:  sample knitted in: 250g Katia Concept Tencel/Merino Blend
50g/135m available from: I Love Yarn, George

100-200g fingering (400m/100g) , circular needles 3.5-4.0mm, 80cm and 1m long.

If you are using a sport weight yarn (>300m/100g) you will need 250-300g)
Work steps 1.-7.

8. continue with pattern/s or stripes until you can comfortably close the circle on the 80cm circular needle, knitting the first and last sts together.

9. In the next round again knit together the last and first stitches; you now have again 3 garter sts between the 2 yos.

10. continue in pattern.

Don’t forget the yos at the beginning and end of every other round, and continue the 3 garter stitches between the yos, which means that you have to purl them every other row.

For a substantial shawl loop you should have at least 60 cm in the front (= the original tip of the triangle).

If you knit further than that you will be able to pull the edges over your shoulders for additional warmth.

Co = cast on
Yo = yarn over, yos = yarn overs PU = pick up
St = stitch, sts = stitches
Wyif = with yarn in front
